Plan Your Ride

Excursions from Allenspark:
The fisherman's paradise: After a hearty breakfast served cookout-style, load up a pack horse and set out for one of the many pristine high mountain lakes in the park for a day of fishing. Whether you head for Pear Lake, Ouzel Lake, Thunder Lake, Copeland Lake, or one of the countless mountain streams, you are sure to have an experience of a lifetime.

Mountain climbing with a four legged friend: Not for the faint of heart! For those of you in top physical shape who long for an adrenaline rush, why not visit the highest point in the park and climb Longs Peak? Wake long before the sun and set off on horseback with a nutritious bagged breakfast for an adventure of a lifetime. The horses will take you up to the boulder field far above the tree line. Here your guide will wait with your horses if you choose to hike the extra hour to reach the summit over 14,000 feet above sea level. Once you make it back down from the peak, you may be tempted to kiss your mount as you discover a new appreciation for the aid of the four legs beneath you. Your sure-footed friend negotiates the rugged terrain as you enjoy the riding adventure and take in the dramatic mountain scenes on your return to civilization.

Picnicking in paradise: If a day of sunshine and tranquility are more your style, why not let your horse venture into Roosevelt National Forest and have our guides show you a grassy spot near a picturesque lake and an aspen grove. Enjoy a leisurely lunch which we can prepare for you and let the rest of the world turn without you. After lunch in the great outdoors, ride as little or as long as you want on the way back to the livery. You, your horse and guide can wander the meadows and canyons at your own pace.

Photographer's Bonanza: Let your camera create images that will make postcards envious. When you mount your horse after breakfast, pack your tripod and telephoto lens, or grab your disposable Kodak. Venture into the park to take photos that the neighbors will beg to see. Our guides will take you to one of the many spectacular spots easily reached by horseback. Fantastic photo opportunities are bountiful at Ouzel Falls, Sandy Beach Lake, Calypso Cascades, or the Saint Vrain trail, to name a few. Bring plenty of film!
For the true horse person: For those of you whose main agenda is simply bonding with one of our friendly and eager equines, we will be sure to show you a good time. Choose the scenery you prefer that day and ride off into the sunset. Our day rides pass views of the Continental Divide, water falls, high mountain lakes, quaint streams, deep valleys, wide meadows, and thickly wooded areas too perfect to describe.
Whether you and your family are looking for one day of fun or a number of days of exploring, come stay in a cozy cabin at one of the area's oldest livery stables. Allenspark offers personalized service in a small town setting.
