Rocky Mountain National Park--known as "the Roof of the World" --covers 417 square miles, stretching from Estes Park across the Continental Divide to Grand Lake. Highest mountain in the park is Longs Peak which rises to 14,255 feet. With over 260 miles of trails throughout the park, exploring the area by horse is ideal.

You can see more of the park by horseback and you'll be viewing the scenic wonders in the same way that the first settlers did long ago. Trails throughout the mountains offer tremendous views of majestic mountains, dense forests, open meadows, mountain streams and lakes.

Since 1915 when first established as Rocky Mountain National Park, millions of visitors have come to marvel at the natural beauty. Fewer have discovered the magic hidden in the high country trails that you will experience on horseback. You can truly feel the spirit of the Rocky Mountains on a ride from Glacier Creek Stables.

As you ride throughout the park, note the difference in vegetation as the elevation changes. Ponderosa pine and juniper grow at lower levels on slopes facing the sun; Douglas fir dot the cooler northern slopes.

Blue spruce are found along streams and rivers with groves of aspen scattered here and there. Colorful wildflowers decorate the meadows. In higher elevations are forests of Englemann spruce and subalpine fir. Look for the glorious blue Colorado columbine wildflowers.

At higher altitudes, twisted and grotesque trees are on display, eerily clinging to the ground for life. And above the tree line is the alpine tundra. Come explore the park from Gracier Creek Stables and learn more about the earth we live on.

Choose from 2, 3, 5, 8 or even a 10-hour ride in the park. Two hour rides give you a good sampling of riding the Rockies. Longer trips provide more in-depth views of the area and take you higher into the mountains. The 10-hour ride will take you up and over the Continental Divide via the Flat Top Mountain Trail to Grand Lake. Any ride you choose will leave you with memories you'll have forever.

A National Park Concession:

In 1959 National Park Service officials recognized the need for a stable concession in the Park. To secure the highest type operation available, prospective concessionaires were interviewed on a national level, chosen carefully and remain under the supervision of the National Park officials.
