What Is a Horse Drive and Should You Take One

Are you planning on taking a Colorado vacation in the coming year? If you have, you may have already started to examine fun and exciting activities that you and your traveling party could enjoy. If you have been researching Colorado activities, you may have heard of a horse drive before. If you are wondering what a horse drive is, you are definitely not alone.

When it comes to understanding what a horse drive is, you will find that there are different definitions for it. There are some who compare a horse drive to a cattle drive. In some cases, horse drives are used to describe the horses which are used to drive cattle into a certain area, which is also commonly referred to as a cattle drive. There are also those who refer to horse drives as traditional horseback riding trail adventures. In the state of Colorado, you will find that you are able to participate in both types of horse drives.

As for the horse drives which are also associated with cattle drives, these types of drives are the most fun, although they are not for everyone. In Colorado, it is not uncommon for a number of farms to offer staged cattle or horse drives. If you were to participate in a horse drive or a cattle drive, you would likely help the ranchers move their cows from one location to another, while on horseback. It is not uncommon for a horse drive or a cattle drive to be overnight. When this happens, you will be camping outdoors like they did in the old days and enjoy old fashion wagon meals.

Looking for information on a Horse Pack Trip and other related resources?

As previously stated, horse drives and cattle drives are not for anyone. Many horse ranchers request that those going on a horse drive have at least a little bit of horseback riding experience. Since many horse drives are a two or three day events, you need to make sure that you can handle being outdoors, without modern accommodations for that time. It has been said that real horse drives or cattle drives are best for adults, not particularly children.

Although a traditional horse drive or cattle drive might not be the best for children, if you are traveling to Colorado with your children, you may want to look into a horseback trail riding adventure, as they are also often considered to be horse drives. When taking a horse drive trail adventure, you will find that you and your group are taken over a vast array of landscaping. In the winter months or during poor weather, it is not uncommon for trail rides to be replaced with indoor arena rides. So, no matter when you and your family want to go on a horse drive and no matter what the weather, you should be able to have some variation of a horse drive.

For more information on horse drives, you will want to contact local Colorado horse ranches or stables for more information. Horse drives in Colorado are popular; therefore you will want to make sure that you make your horse drive arrangements well in advance.
