Moraine Park Stable
Our Moraine Park Stable is conveniently near the Moraine Park campground, only 6.9 miles from Estes Park and 4.2 miles inside Rocky Mountain National Park. The park was declared America’s 10th national park in 1915 and offers an extensive trail system with over 260 miles open to riders.
We offer a variety of rides in durations of 2,3,4,6, and 8 hours.
Our Family Friendly environment is the perfect way to show people of all ages the beauty of the Rockies and the all wildlife that call this place home.
Our staff will strive to accommodate your every need and make your horseback riding experience as pleasant and fun as possible.
3 Hour Ride, Option One: The three hour ride has two options. The Moraine Meadows option is the best for beautiful vistas and wildlife spotting. It traces gentle hills up through Beaver Meadows and follows the Big Thompson River into Moraine Park. This is a good trail for inexperienced riders and kids under the age of thirteen.
3 Hour Ride, Option Two: Option two is a ride to Cub Lake and Forest Canyon! Due to recent flooding this trail is recommended for adults and experienced riders only. This is a 6 mile ride that goes from Moraine Meadows up through a variety of ponderosa pine, spruce and aspen tree forests to Cub Lake! It then follows the Big Thompson River through Forest Canyon to the amazing Arch Rocks!
4 Hour ride: The Ride To The Top Of Beaver Mountain! On this exciting ride you will climb over 1,000 feet to the top of Beaver Mountain, elevation 9,251 ft! From the top you can see the Continental Divide, Longs Peak, and many meadows far below. This ride is suitable for ages 6 and up and has fantastic views and picture opportunities!
6 hour ride: Rivers! Lakes! And Water Falls! If you are looking for a more extended riding experience, this is the ride for you! The 6 hour ride follows Cub Creek up to Cub Lake. Here it joins with the Big Thompson River, where you will ride alongside wild rapids and see several water falls. At Fern Lake, 9,520 feet, you will take a 25 min break for lunch before heading through Forest Canyon and by the amazing Arch Rocks on your way back.
8 hour ride: This All Day Ride Has It All! Starts at 8,100 feet and climbs all the way to 10,020ft. Along the way, you’ll see Moraine Meadow, Cub Creek, Cub Lake, the Big Thompson River, Fern Falls, Fern Lake (where you stop 30 min. for lunch), Fern Creek, Tourmaline Gorge, Old Forest Inn, Forest Canyon, and the Arch Rocks! If you are looking for a truly memorable ride, this is the one for you! Due to recent flooding, please call to inquire as to availability of this 8 hour ride.
Take a step back in time and experience the Rocky Mountains of Colorado on horseback. Your ride will be one vacation memory that will last forever . . . but bring your camera so you can share the beauty with others.
We recommend that you stop early during your stay and make a reservation to ride with us at Moraine Park Stable, Rocky Mountain National Park, as we tend to stay very busy over the summer.

A National Park Concession:
In 1959, National Park Service officials recognized the need for a stable concession in the park. To secure the highest quality operation available, prospective concessionaires were interviewed on a national level, chosen carefully, and remain under the supervision of the National Park officials. Hi Country Stables is the only horseback riding concessionaire with stables in the park.
