What to Wear for Your Colorado Mountain Horseback Ride

If you are traveling to come see us, there is a good chance that Colorado is quite different from your home climate—and even if you are from Colorado, the Rocky Mountains might be a big change! Whether people are packing for a flight or taking a short drive to come to see us, we often get asked about what to wear on the horseback ride, and we are here to help.

Because of elevation changes and seasonal differences, we often see highs in the 80s and lows in the 40s during the summer season, and spring and fall can be even more variable! Thankfully, we have your back no matter when you decide to come see us.

Packing for Your Horseback Ride Through the Rocky Mountains

Pants for practicality. No matter what season you plan to come see us, we always recommend wearing pants for the practical aspect of horseback riding. Saddle leather can be uncomfortable for the skin and brush beside the trail can be scratchy, so wearing athletic pants or jeans is a great way to protect your legs and ride in style.

Closed-toed shoes for safety. Farm life can be unpredictable, so we always recommend people wear closed-toed shoes if they are coming to see us just in case! Closed-toed shoes can make your overall ride easier as they are more compatible with the stirrups on the saddle, and they can help protect you from any stray hazards that might be hanging around. If you want the authentic ranch experience, a pair of cowboy or cowgirl boots fit the bill perfectly!

Layers for comfort. Hot sun, mountain winds and a shady chill are all things you might experience on a ride with us—often all within an hour! Dressing in layers is the Colorado way so you can be comfortable no matter what mother nature throws at you. In the summer, a T-shirt with a light jacket and/or rain shell will do, while you might want to add a fleece or other warm layer during spring and fall.

Are you ready to embark on your Colorado Rocky Mountain horseback riding adventure? We can’t wait to have you! Book a ride with us today.
